After a couple pop up stores in Paris, Sonya Tailleur, along with her partner in crime Claire Tournemine, brings forth the concept of The Other Shop to our Portuguese sun-kissed city with a number of French, Scandinavian and, of course, Portuguese brands and designers, though there is space for many others from all over the world. Fashion, art and design are their ultimate objets du desir, so it is not unusual that they would choose items catering to these for this pop up store.

“I started with a webzine, The Other Sight, which is focused on art, design and fashion, so I was used to, and still am, interviewing young designers and artists, as well as brands, from Paris and around the world. It went on like this for about two years, until I decided to launch the e-shop, a compliment to the webzine, to sell the products and brands I was presenting there”, Sonya tells us.

It wasn’t hard for them to bring fashion brands onto their new adventure, but they did have to go to Maison & Objet, for example, to introduce the brands their were trying to get to The Other Shop.

Ferm Living, Nomess Copenhagen, Kristina Dam Studio, Octaevo and Casa Cubista are some of the brands you can see and purchase at The Other Shop’s lovely location in Rua Garrett, right in the heart of Lisbon, but that’s not just it: ISTO, DARRIS Paris and Paria Studio, among other fashion brands, are displayed here. Art is also a big part of The Other Shop, so you will be glad to see pieces by Hugo Cantegrel and Maud Téphany, to name a couple.

When we got to Lisbon, we absolutely wanted to work with local Portuguese brands. It was very important to us.
The idea is to open different pop up stores in different cities.

“We arrived in Lisbon over a year ago, but I didn’t have any connection to it. I visited when I was a teenager with my parents, but nothing more. It was only when I came to Web Summit that everything changed, and I came here a couple of times after to feel the vibe, and I fell in love with the city".

“And when we got to Lisbon, we absolutely wanted to work with local Portuguese brands. It was very important to us. I personally know all the designers that are part of The Other Shop and I strive to build relationships with them”.

Though The Other Shop in Lisbon is sadly coming to an end — it will stay open until the end of July — the “idea is to open different pop up stores in different cities”, Sonya confirms.

But fear not, as The Other Shop will bring us summer vibes of joy at Petite Miramar, a retreat created by André Saraiva in Fonte da Telha, right next to the beach, where they will host a pop up store with music, great food and amazing deals. To set the tone for the event, they had the pleasure and honour of working with internationally renowned illustrator Miss Led on the flyers, which will definitely make a nice addition to our collections. See you there?.

The space per se is airy with a white industrial look & feel begging for something to materialise onto those walls.
