There is always a moment in a woman’s life when she is waiting
for the right object to come along, the right accessory,
the undeniable extension of beauty or richness of the soul.
With Cavaleiro, one can immediately feel the appeal of wearing
something as organic as a raindrop or a shell.
Shapes hovering like calyxes enveloping a neck, an ear, a finger. Jewelry is the utmost form of poise, and Joana Cavaleiro,
the hands and the eyes behind this graceful brand,
shows us exactly that.
Cavaleiro was born out of a need for something more, while Joana studied Architecture. She always felt the need to stay close to her artistic side, to be deeply involved in what she was creating at that moment.
She loves to be hands-on, if you will. She later dropped out of Architecture, as she was growing a little bit “impatient”, as she puts it. “I have always had a bit of a temperament when it came to results: I want to see them as quick as possibly. And I was not getting it from my degree.
Then I decided to pursue what I have been in love with since forever, which was jewelry, so everything turned out pretty easy in my head. At first, I designed jewelry pieces for friends and family. They liked what I showed them, so they started ordering — I still have pieces from that time in my collections. They are part of the brand’s growth”.
There is something fascinating about thinking of something, drawing it and then, here it goes out in the world. Jewelry has this exquisite side of making you fall in love with a thought, at first, a cold, tasteful chunk of silver that finds its way into our hearts and then our bodies.

How do you get this far? Bring pen and paper and just sketch: “I like to sketch every time something comes up. There are rough drafts that never see the light of day, but it is all part of the creative process.
When I believe that an idea might really be transformed into something, I move on to the next phase”. But Joana found a special way to shape her sketches into real life, which is a traditional method of wax carving.
She first sculpts her pieces in wax and only after that she casts them in silver and finishes them by hand.
Each piece is naturally a work of art in the sense that it is well-thought out before it makes its first appearance, just like a sculpture or a painting would.
I have always felt spellbound by her velvet jewelry boxes filled with rings, bracelets, and what not.

Her grandmother is her greatest influence and ultimate inspiration. “I have always felt spellbound by her velvet jewelry boxes filled with rings, bracelets, and what not. I still wear her jewelry today every time I get the chance."
"Some of those pieces are unique and made out of her own ideas”. When she is not day dreaming about her grandmother and her beautiful jewelry, she feels the need to explore nature and what surrounds her in order to create, yet it is mainly the woman that stirs her to design jewelry under Cavaleiro.
“I love organic lines and the goal is that all my pieces can be used every single day”. We simply cannot wait to see what will come out this year as she begins working on a new collection and keeps on escalating her brand, maintaining what brought her here, of course: beauty.
